Second Memorandum of Understanding ANRI – The Corts Foundation signed

After receiving the approval of a committee of Indonesian government officials from different ministries – including the Ministry of the State Secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – the Director General of Arsip Nasional Republik Indonesia, Mustari Irawan, and the President of The Corts Foundation, Egbert Jacobs, signed the second Memorandum of Understanding for the period 15 October 2014 – 15 October 2017.

This extended cooperation between the parties will result in the digitalization of a few major series of VOC archives kept in ANRI’s depots in South Jakarta. The Programme Direction 2014-2017, annex to the MoU, provides for the digitalization and publication on the Sejarah Nusantara website of 550.000 pages (approximately 150.000 documents) of unknown documents from the former Batavia Castle (Appendices to the General Resolutions of Batavia Castle).

The MoU makes several arrangements for technological support from the Netherlands, in particular in the field of sustainable data storage and the development of digital archives management. Together with several Indonesian Universities (Universitas Diponegoro, Semarang; Universitas Indonesia, Depok; Universitas Gajah Mada, Yogyakarta) and Leiden University, historical databases and publications will be prepared.
